2021 -- The Edlu

Image
2021 - May 8th Larchmont Yacht Club's 66th Annual Edlu Distance Race It's a short distance race.  Usually 32 miles.  The day was overcast and not too windy.  The Race Committee wisely (in my opinion) chose to send us on the short course, about 18 miles.  I was part of the crew of the good boat Eagle, a J-121.  Skipper Steve Levy, also Mike, Scott, Jack, Ben, Dave, Ryan, and me -- 8 in all.      The wind was light.  The weather was not warm. (it was in the 50's).  Our 22-mile course was upwind for 11 miles, then downwind for 11 miles.  The wind wobbled between 6 - 10 knots, direction between 60 and 120 (magnetic).  Playing the shifts was one key to success (as well as avoiding gross errors).   We had a quick team meeting before the start. I was busy trying to figure out the wind during the first half.  Didn't take any additional pics until we were going downhill.   Steve, driving.   Here's Mike...
